Hawthorn Class
Hello, my name is Mr Lester and this is my first year teaching at St Werburgh’s Primary School. I feel incredibly excited and grateful to be beginning my teaching journey in such a wonderful school.
I am looking forward to working with the children in Year 5 and supporting them as they grow both academically and personally. I particularly love helping children explore their individual passions and will be encouraging them to be curious, ask questions and develop a genuine love of learning. Oracy is a particularly important part of my teaching. I love facilitating discussions and fostering a positive climate for learning where children can talk, listen and learn from one another. I believe that giving children the confidence and vocabulary to express themselves helps them to become successful learners both inside and outside the classroom. I want every child to feel that their voice matters and that they have something valuable to contribute.
My aim is for every child who leaves my classroom to be a confident, curious and resilient learner. I believe that mistakes are marvellous and an important part of learning. Above all, I want to create a positive classroom environment where children feel safe, supported and excited to learn.
Outside of school, I enjoy going to concerts and exploring the beautiful city of Bristol! I am very excited about the year ahead and looking forward to getting to know the children and the St Werburgh’s school community. Weekly Timetable
PE Days
In term 1 PE is on Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure that you wear a PE kit to school on these days. Our PE kit is plain black shorts; leggings or joggers; plain white or school PE t-shirt; school jumper.
Homework
Each week, we send home two homework activities - a spelling task and some arithmetic questions based on recent learning.
Please read daily at home as much as possible. Ask lots of questions during this time to support their comprehension as well as their decoding skills.
Useful Information
Our doors are open at 8:45, with the children coming straight into class for morning work. This work is a helpful way to secure understanding of prior learning, so please ensure that your child is on time every day.
