Equalities
At St Werburgh's Primary we embrace Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in everything that we do. We are committed to everyone in our school community experiencing equality of opportunity, respect and feeling included. We celebrate diversity and promote a positive culture where everyone can thrive and feel proud of who they are.
We are committed to the development of cohesive communities both within our school and within our local, national and global environments.
The Equality Act 2010 was introduced to ensure protection from discrimination, harassment and victimisation on the grounds of specific characteristics (referred to as protected characteristics). This means that schools cannot discriminate against pupils and staff or treat them less favourably because of their sex (gender), race, disability, religion or belief, gender reassignment, sexual orientation or pregnancy or maternity.
Our school aims to meet its obligations under the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) by having due regard to the need to:
- Eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation or other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act 2010.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
Our Equalities objectives from January 2024 are:
- Accelerate the progress and attainment of children eligible for pupil premium funding in the Early Years. As measured by percentages achieving GLD.
- Accelerate the progress and raise attainment in reading for children eligible for pupil premium.

Ofsted
Our most recent Ofsted inspection was in July 2024 and we are very proud of the overall 'good' rating. We are thrilled that two areas were rated as 'outstanding'.
The report states that 'Pupils are at the heart of this diverse and inclusive school. Leaders have high expectations and want all pupils to achieve well. The school values of ‘kindness, curiosity and commitment’ are evident in the way pupils interact with adults and their peers on a day-to-day basis. The school supports pupils in making the right choices'.
Inspectors also highlighted 'Pupils are proud of their school. They are polite and considerate towards others. Pupils live up to adults’ high expectations of behaviour. They understand the importance of being ‘respectful, responsible and safe’. The school is a calm and purposeful place to learn'.

Pupil Premium
The pupil premium grant is extra funding provided to schools in order to help close the gap between the outcomes of children who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and their peers. You can find our strategy statement below, which explains how we use this funding.
Music development plan
This is a summary of how St Werburgh’s Primary School delivers music education to all pupils across three areas – curriculum music, co-curricular provision and musical experiences – and what changes we are planning in future years. This information is to help pupils, parents and carers understand what our school offers and who we work with to support our pupils’ music education.
Sports Premium
The Sport Premium Funding is being used to develop and add to the PE and sports activities that our school already offers and make improvements that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years. This is being achieved through money being spent to hire qualified sports coaches to come into school and run PE lessons, provide PE leads who support PE throughout the school, provide before and after school sports clubs, allow children to access taster sessions for a variety of sports and arrange for additional swimming lessons for children in Year 6 not reaching the national expectation of swimming 25 metres.
